Day 57
We have a bit of a quiet day and just look around Freemantle on our bikes. Another great city for cycling as it’s nice and flat and the car parking is at a premium so much easier to ride. We have seen many of the attractions a few years ago but still enjoy looking around. We decide to see a movie this afternoon so go back to the C.P. and get the car. The movie is Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood, which Al has been keen to see, we both really enjoy the movie and afterwards we get Thai takeaway (our 1st takeaway meal for the trip!!) It’s cooling down a little and again Alan is keen to head north.
Day 58....ANZAC DAY
We have decided to go to Rottnest Island today and have booked us...and our bikes on the 8:30am ferry. It is a lovely morning which clouds over throughout the day but perfect for riding around the Island. Neither of us has been here before and are not sure what to expect. It is actually a great day to visit the island as there is a lot of World ar 2 history here. There are no public cars so the roads were easy and safe to ride around, except for the many families and THOUSANDS of riders of all ages and abilities!! As any of you who have been here would know it is not flat but hills are gentle and because it was a little overcast made it most enjoyable riding. We stopped at a couple of lovely little coves for swims and a bit of a snorkel. Would be spectacular when it was fine, as the water was quite warm and fairly clear. We were surprised at the amount of accommodation of different kinds on the island and being a long weekend it looked fully booked. Glad we are not staying here this weekend!! We had a beer in the lovely pub beer garden, before getting the 4pm ferry back to Freo. By the time we got back to C.P. we had done 45km on our bikes, so slept well after dinner!!
