The Hamilton Stimulus Package

Murphy's Haystacks
Beautiful Sunset over Baird Bay and Brekie on the run

Day 34

We have decided that the"Kevin Rudd Stimulus Package"will now be renamed "The Hamilton Stimulus Package"as we have boosted the economies of many businesses around Australia with all our breakdowns and repairs!!
Drove to Streaky Bay it was getting warmer by the km and up to 39 degrees when we arrived . Our next door camper at Elliston had noticed one of the bolts holding the shock absorber on the camper was missing so a small job to be done...no problems.....Al called in to get a bolt and the guy didn’t have the right size so had to order it from Adelaide!!!!!!Déjà vu!! How long will it take Al asks?? Oh it’ll be here by tomorrow. Mmmm???
Anyway we have to believe him so we call in to see Wendy and Nick who are at the caravan park. We are shocked that there are at least a hundred vans there... grey nomads wall to wall!! We decide that this is a bit too crowded for us and we will head out to Baird Bay to camp as we are doing the sea lion swimming trip from there tomorrow. The flies I might add are absolutely horrendous and the great Aussie wave is in full swing!! We drive around some gravel roads and Al is wondering if the shockies will last this little road. We get to Baird Bay and a camp ground which doesn’t look very inviting but next to the water so we leave the camper there and take a drive to Point Labatt where there is a seal colony and Murphy’s haystacks a group of rocky formations a little like Stonehenge in England. Back to the camp ground and the flies are still in full swing!! Yes you can drink a beer/wine with one of those fly nets over your face!! By sun down, which is about 7:45pm, the flies had gone???Not sure to where, but we were able to enjoy a lovely barbq dinner at sunset over Baird Bay. We are alone in this beautiful place what a difference to the Streaky Bay Park. A Lovely peaceful night.....until 2:30am when we worry that the breeze that gets up is going to turn into something nasty....luckily it abates and we awake to a cooler morning with a bit of cloud cover. I don’t have mobile phone service as I am not on the 3G network so will have to survive with Al’s phone until we get across the Nullarbor.

  1. You are doing such a fantastic job of keeping us informed with both photographs and notes of your trip, I feel as if I am travelling with you. I loved the BigPond sign! My father was born in Kalgoorlie, I am pleased the family decided to move to Sydney and then my parents moved to Lismore when they married. Look forward to the next 'episode'. Cheers, Marie.
